Not what I expected, but I did my best to avoid expectations (or at least attachment to them), so it all worked out well :)

So, the vital stats:
Head: 14 3/4in
Chest 15in
Length: 21 1/2in
Weight: 9lbs 15oz

2 days of regular, infrequent contractions that weren't very painful and I could walk, talk, and sleep through
13 hours of early labor at home, moderately painful contractions that I couldn't sleep through that made walking uncomfy
6 hours of good active labor at home: went to the hospital at 6cm
7 hours of crappy semi-stalled labor later, with some dilation but no progress in fetal descent, I had my membranes ruptured
1.5 hours after that, an hour of which was transition, I got an epidural
½ an hour after that, I was at 8cm with STILL no progress in fetal descent, and started Pitocin
3 hours after that, while gradually building up to fairly heavy Pit augmentation, the head had finally come down substantially
1 hour after that, I started pushing.
1.5hours of pushing, and 1 hour more for the placenta, and we were done!

34 hours without sleep from when I woke up Wed. morning to having the baby on Thursday night. And I still needed a sleeping pill to get sleep that evening!

quizzical
The number of people who fail to understand the following very basic things continues to astonish and baffle me.

1. The massively pregnant woman with the armful of groceries slung over her hip has the right of way. I am neither capable of nor willing to move around you.

2. If you do not accept this, or respond to my 'excuse me' by shifting half a step to the side, I have no compunctions about walking *through* you, using either groceries or stomach to nudge you out of the way. I hope this makes you feel like a tool.

3. You cannot walk behind me at the checkout line to cut through. I'm not being rude by not stepping forward to let you slip past me, THERE IS A GINOURMOUS GUT IN FRONT OF ME, OCCUPYING ALL AVAILABLE SPACE.

It's gotten absolutely hilarious, actually. I mean, if *I* saw me heading towards me, I'd get the hell out of the way at this point. I am both the immovable object AND the unstoppable force.

I can't wait until I can move again. It feels like I'm wearing a bloody corset. A large, pumpkin shaped, corset.

Removing some of the pressure on all my internal organs and bones would be nice, too.

Yay pain, and complaining!

Really great appointment today. My iron’s up, which was a pleasant surprise. And my GBS test came back negative, which is a huuuuuge relief since it allows me to avoid making an uncomfortable decision about whether or not to take megadoses of IV antibiotics. Suuuuch a good thing, yay!

The mildly excruciating pain I’ve been having is, as I suspected, due to my son’s big head working it’s way down and doing it’s best to split my pelvis like an overripe walnut. So, that’s also a good thing.

As the midwife said- "The more uncomfortable you are, the happier I am!"

So....right.

Aaaaany minute now.

Yep.

Any minute.

*sigh*

The past month has been...difficult. Painful and tiring and just generally blechy. I've been overwhelmed at the thought of having to get through ANOTHER month of that crap, and wondering if my pain tolerance would just be completely eaten away by the time I actually started labor.

And then there was yesterday. Which was magical, and pain and nausea free, in which I actually had the energy to do things. Including leaving the house! Hot damn!

And last night, for about two hours, I felt positively post-coital. That really good kind, where you've had multiple orgasms ending with a simultaneous one and actually have more energy than when you started and the world seems all sparkly. Or like when the gods are around. Or when you're rushing a ton of energy...as if someone hooked up a pressure hose to my root chakra. Powerful enough (although completely painless) that I couldn't focus on anything else and needed to just breathe through it. Seriously. Good. Shit. At some point I decided I had better go get some sleep instead of glomming on to this sensation, but it's still lingering, albeit more mildly, today. I'm trying very hard not to spend all this energy in a flurry of unnecessary activity.

I seriously wonder if my system is getting flooded with oxytocin right now.
Mmmmm, delicious, lovely, oxytocin.

I love everything right now.
laaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa!

So I wanted to find some different translations of the hymn to prothyraia.  Googling "Prothyraia" led to the first four links having to do with this journal.

Is that a good thing? *scratches her head*
I mean, now I feel like I should add more content or something.

*mildly embarassed*
